Tamraght Surf Guide: 12 Best Surf Spots Near Agadir, Morocco
A local guide to the best surf spots around Tamraght and Agadir. Where to surf, when to surf, and what to do when you’re not in the water. By Wail Regragui.
Surf Tamraght: Morocco's Ultimate Surf Destination
Tamraght sits between Agadir, Banana Village (Aourir), and the popular surf hub of Taghazout. Built on a hill overlooking a smooth, glassy coastline, Tamraght means “the place of rest” in Tamazight, the local language spoken by the Amazigh (Berbers), who’ve called this region home for thousands of years. Amazigh hospitality is legendary, from the delicious slow-cooked dishes to endless cups of mint tea. Say “Azul” (hello) and you’ll usually get a big, warm smile.
Although Tamraght is getting more popular, it is still more laid-back than Taghazout. It’s quiet, restaurants aren’t crowded, and nightlife is limited (it’s a dry village, so grab your beers in Agadir!). Food-wise, you’re in for a treat with local favorites like couscous, unique tagines, harira soup, Berber omelette, and fresh Moroccan salads. Make sure to try a Batbut sandwich right next to us in Machi Mouchkil.
Arabic, French, and English are common here, but remember it’s a Muslim community. You’ll quickly sync your daily rhythm to the calls to prayer, sunrise, and the sounds of crashing waves.

Tamraght Surf Conditions & Best Times to Visit
Tamraght offers excellent surfing, affordable living, amazing food, and genuine cultural experiences year-round. Temperatures are pleasant, hitting 30°C+ in summer, around 25°C in spring and autumn, and 20°C in winter. The ocean breeze keeps summers comfortable – just remember your sunscreen, even in December!
There’s no wrong time to surf Tamraght. Winter brings bigger swells for advanced surfers. In summer, beginners and intermediates score clean, fun waves. And when the heat kicks in, the ocean is the best place to cool off – nothing beats that salty line-up vibe.
Best months to surf Tamraght:
- Advanced: November – March
- Intermediate: September – May
- Beginner: All year round
